Not much has excited me lately (with the exception of Rockford Files re-runs), but the debut single from Geelong, Australia’s Laughing Leaves made me miss a few episodes the other night. Its four songs in the mold of Them and early Kinks are raw and primal songs and thankfully knocked me out of my temporary coma. The EP is available via the Laughing Leaves’ bandcamp page.

Euro-psychedelic-tinged power pop to the max! Bed Rugs are going against the grain just by being from Belgium. I don’t know if they’re Walloons or Flemish, I’m sure if you live in Belgium you know. Surely a common love of Cheap Trick and Fountains of Wayne can unite the country in brand new ways the politicians have not thought of yet.

The band’s new EP is out soon on Burger on cassette here in the States and Ample Play on vinyl/cd in the UK.

I love a record that doesn’t fully reveal itself on first listen, but doesn’t put you off of it either. Songs second album Malabar is a grower, watch out though it grows very fast. This Sydney, Australia four piece delivers the drone-laden psychedelic pills but tempers it with melodic vocals. The one thing I’m not sold on is the band’s name. Songs? Really?

Oh the irony, or is it hypocrisy? Savages got a lot of attention this week for the stance they’ve taken against people using cell phones at their gigs as is evidenced in the top photo (via the Stranger) which was at the entrance to their show at Neumo’s here in Seattle on Tuesday. Click on over to the band’s Facebook page and you can see that they don’t think that other bands deserve the same respect. I guess they weren’t totally immersed in the Make-Up at Coachella even though they said that the band “killed it.” After seeing Savages this week at Neumo’s and being less than impressed and now this display of “do as I say not as I do” I’m liking this band less and less.
